GOP senators: Obama failing in oil clean-up

The obama administration has completely screwed the people of the Gulf Coast. It took far too long for the federal government to begin any serious cleanup effort. It all sort of seems like a plan though. The longer the spill goes on, the more fire power for cap and trade.

Cap and trade will break our economy. Energy prices will skyrocket. Average people will not be able to afford to heat or cool their homes. People will not be able to afford to drive to work because gas prices will double or even triple. In Amsterdam, the price of a gallong of gasoline is over $7.00 per gallon. Would you be able to drive your car the way you do now if our gas prices were $7.00 per gallon or more?

From Politico

Just days after BP temporarily plugged the massive oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico, Senate Republicans on Sunday lashed out at the Obama administration for failing to clean up America's soiled shoreline.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) told CNN's "State of the Union" that the administration was suffering from incompetence.

“This is mainly a failure of the administration,” McConnell said. “BP caused the spill. It’s BP’s responsibility to plug that leak. The federal government has been trying to keep the oil off the shores of the United States. It took the administration 70 days to order [oil-collecting] skimmers down to the Gulf."

McConnell said some in his party would back certain elements of comprehensive energy reform, including nuclear power and clean-coal technology. But they wouldn't get behind Democrats’ efforts to seize on the spill to pass an energy tax on corporations, which he said would be passed down to consumers.

“My point is you can’t legislate competence. ...” he added. "This has mainly been a competence problem on the part of the administration in keeping oil off of our shores."

Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) told "Fox News Sunday" that President Barack Obama is focusing too much on concealing the BP oil spill, rather than the clean-up.

"I'm afraid he's decided to deal with this issue, at least politically, by not coming back here at all and trying to move it off the front page rather than dealing with the situation forcefully," Vitter said.

Asked if he believes the president is trying to sweep the environmental catastrophe under the rug, the senator responded that he did believe that was Obama's "political motivation."

Vitter pointed out that Obama hasn't visited Louisiana since June 4 - ignoring the president's recent statement that he'd go back down to the Gulf Coast in the "next several weeks."

"That is personally disappointing to me," Vitter said.

Vitter is a lead sponsor on a bill that would overturn the administration's deepwater drilling moratorium. He estimated that more than 140,000 jobs have been lost, as oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico are moving to Brazil and West Africa.

"It's already been a huge job killer," he said, "and if it continues six months or more it will kill more jobs here than the oil itself."
